‘We must be true to Ourselves’

The company motto – chosen right at the start of our adventure.

It would be very easy for us to tell you here that you shouldn’t be using this and you shouldn’t be using that, therefore using ‘the fear factor’. If we did that though our motto would not mean much. When a man or a woman apply a cosmetic to their skin the one thing they want to feel is good about themselves. We all use cosmetics for a variety of reasons but most importantly we use them for ourselves.

Over 20 years ago we wanted to know if by making cosmetics with only organic essential oils and butters was possible. We thought this would be something completely new, cosmetics made with raw materials. No petrochemicals, no man made substances, this was going to be a revelation, a new discovery!

Of course this this was not a new discovery. As we travelled around the world to find sources for our ingredients we soon realised that the oils and butters we began to formulate with have been around for thousands of years. So, what was the point of investing all this time and money into doing something that has already done before?
Our answer ‘the world had stopped doing it’.

The following is taken from a book which was written thousands of years ago where two lovers are talking to each other. One of the most erotic books written – Songs of Songs (The Christian Bible).

“You have ravished my heart – How much better than wine is your love
And the scent of your perfume – it is like the fragrance of Lebanon
with pleasant fruits, fragrant henna with spikenard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all the trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices so then come into my garden my beloved that all its spices may flow out come and eat its pleasant fruits.

And that is the reason we carried on with our research.
If products from nature can be described like that – let’s have a go. We wanted to feel good in our minds and on our bodies and a little bit of sensuality too.
So following 15 years of testing with these wonderful ingredients
Chayah Cosmetics was launched.
